Marist Brothers Forward and Deputy Head Boy, Michael Fredrick Hennings boarded a flight this morning to New Zealand to begin the next step of his rugby career.
The 18 year old from Taveuni had earlier this year been offered an opportunity to join the Mid Canterbury Schools 1st XV Team in Methven. As part of Mid Canterbury’s Rugby Club 'rebuilding rugby in schools' program, Michael will also be completing his final school year at Mount Hutt College in Methven, just outside Christchurch.
Club CEO Ian Patterson says they are excited to have Michael join the program and with his experience, it will definitely make an impact to the young team.
The six foot forward says ‘its like a dream come true and all the sacrifices and training has been worth it.” Michael has been dawning the number 7 jersey since 2011 playing for Under 9 for St Agnes Primary School.

“This is an opportunity to better my skills and knowledge on the game as compared to how rugby is played in Fiji secondary school level. A stepping stone towards developing my skills for professional rugby career” says the new member of the Mid Canterbury Schools 1st XV’s team.
Michael was also part of the Rugby Academy Fiji team that participated in the World School Sevens Championships in 2018 and 2019.
